Yoga for You

image19

"Words fail to convey the total value of yoga. It has to be experienced." ~ B.K.S. Iyengar

People come to yoga for many reasons. Perhaps you want to strengthen and invigorate your body and improve your balance.   Or you desire a brief and relaxing interlude from a hectic day. Perhaps a health challenge has you searching for a therapeutic practice to support healing or you're drawn to yoga for a contemplative practice to experience equanimity and a deeper relationship with the Divine.

My yoga journey began over 40 years ago watching Lilias Folan on my parents' black and white TV. Her soft voice and gentle, compassionate approach to yoga came through the screen. Oh, and did I mention her long braided hair?!?  Well neither Lilias nor I have long braided hair anymore; however, yoga remains one of my integral practices for self-care. I'm here to invite and encourage you to explore how yoga can be integral to your self care too.

Akke's Yoga Place

 2401 South Main Street Blacksburg

Sometimes Life seems Hard ~ hard to do the things you want because it’s hard to find time, hard to make ends meet, hard to be disciplined; then there are hard decisions, hard relationships; and of course you work hard, you try hard… All real reasons to treat yourself to a time of Softening the Edges.

Three friends braid their passions and practices together to offer you this enriching experience to ease body, mind and breath and help you harmonize with your heart’s longing for well-being and balance.

Kathy Graham will lead a slow, flowing, suitable-for-all yoga practice, pairing breath with movement to explore the interplay of stability and mobility, contraction and expansion, effort and ease within your body and life.

Sara Elizabeth Knapp will guide Yoga Nidra; a deeply relaxing practice that creates space for and cultivates a sense of deep serenity, clarity, and integration of all components of the retreat experience.

Awakening the Heart's Intuitive Intelligence

The heart is associated with deeper wisdom and intuition and is at the core of who we are as human beings. The stress of everyday living can leave one feeling disconnected, depleted physically and emotionally unable to connect to the source of our power, the heart. This program combines conscious breathing, gentle asana, self-inquiry and meditation to cleanse, nourish, strengthen, and support the body-mind to awaken your heart’s intuitive intelligence.

With care, compassion, and kindness one “yokes” the bridge between head and heart and a new level of awareness and integration within yourself is reached. Renewed, you will feel calm, connected and confident with the capacity to navigate the challenges of everyday living with greater clarity, ease, and grace.

Balance

Remaining active and engaged can enhance one's quality of life and sense of well being.   Just as important is being able to relax and feel rested and renewed which is challenging when we're feeling overwhelmed.

Yoga can be a wonderful way to lower stress, reduces muscle tension,  enhances one's ability to rest deeply and restores balance to the nervous system.  You experience a more easeful body and peaceful mind.

Thank you for providing information and lending support during this time.  I appreciate it so very much and do fully acknowledge that you go above and beyond the call of duty.  I never expected a yoga teacher to exceed expectations in this way.  I consider it a gift.  BC, Roanoke VA
